Central Purchasing Company Ltd was registered in Uganda as a private limited liability company in 2000 as a result of the privatization of the former state-owned Government Central Purchasing Corporation. It took over all the assets and liabilities of the privatized corporation on a going concern basis. The company is fully owned by employees.
Former Government Central Purchasing Corporation was established by statute in 1990 as a Government procurement Agency providing a full range of procurement services to the Government of Uganda.
Central Purchasing Company has since restructured its business to make it a leading company in Uganda providing procurement and supply chain management services to the public and private sector.
Central Purchasing Company Limited has 31 shareholders, a Board of Directors and a dedicated Management Team.
There are 7 members of the Board of Directors of whom 3 (including the Chairman) are not shareholders. One of the directors is a Government representative who oversees the company’s business with the Uganda Government.
Mr. Grace Musoke-Lwanga (Chairman) is a practicing management consultant. He has an excellent track record as a trainer and management consultant. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree and has been a lecturer at the University of Nairobi, Kenya and Acting Director-General of the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI), a regional institution based in Arusha, Tanzania dedicated to middle level and senior management training and consultancy.
Mr. Anthony A. Okwenye (Managing Director) has over 20 years experience in public procurement, financial management, and general management in Uganda and Tanzania. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a post-graduate qualification in Public procurement. He has been Chief Executive of Government Central Purchasing Corporation/Central Purchasing Company Limited since 1994.
